April is Foot Health Awareness Month

“When my feet hurt I can’t think,”

-Abraham Lincoln

Nearly half of all Americans experience some type of foot pain during their life-time according to a 2006 study by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).  If you consider that each stride an adult takes nearly 1000 lbs. per square inch of pressure on the bottom of the feet it is almost a certain fact that nearly everyone at some time in their life will suffer from some type of foot pain symptoms.  Be it something fairly simple such as an ingrown toenail to more complicated problems like broken bones (the foot contains more bones than any other part of the human body), pinched nerves, pain on the top, bottom, ball or side of foot, and chronic foot problems like ulcers associated with diabetes or poor circulation, foot pain is not normal.  If your feet hurt something is wrong, and you should consult with a podiatric physician.  For more information on foot aliments and to find a licensed podiatric physician please visit the California Podiatric Medical Association’s Visitor’s Center at http://www.calpma.org/visitors/
